Urweider, Raphael

Raphael Urweider was born in Bern in 1974. He studies German literature and philosophy at the University of Fribourg. He works on the editorial staff of the Berner Literatur-Almanach. Urweider sees himself as a musician and lyricist. In 1998 he takes on the musical conception for the radio play Röstiblitz by Samuel Schwarz and Udo Israel, which receives the Zurich Radio Prize. He then works as a pianist in the play Ein gefallener Engel im Hotel Schweiz at the Theater an der Winkelwiese in Zurich and takes over the musical direction in the play Oedipus after Sophocles by Lukas Bärfuss at the Escher-Wyss Underpass in Zurich. Urweider has several performances with the Bernese hip-hop group LdeeP. In November 1998 he conceives and reads Freier Stil – Lyrik meets HipHop at the Schlachthaus Bern. Together with Hans Koch he composes the music for the play Dreiraff oder die reinste Entsorge after August Stramm by Oswald Lipfert, which is performed at the Schlachthaus Bern in March 1999. In the same year he receives a working scholarship from the German Literature Fund. Today he lives in Bern.
