Lutz Seiler, born in 1963, grew up in eastern Thuringia. Apprenticeship as a skilled construction worker, jobs as a carpenter and bricklayer. Studied history and German at Martin Luther University in Halle (Saale) until early 1990. Moved to Berlin, where he worked as a waiter for several years. Longer stays in Rome, Los Angeles and Paris. Since 1997 he has directed the literary program at the Peter Huchel House near Potsdam and lives as a freelance writer with his wife in Wilhelmshorst and Stockholm. 1993-1998 Seiler was co-founder and co-editor of the literary magazine moosbrand. He initially wrote mainly poems and essays, later also short stories and novels. He received the German Book Prize in 2014 for his debut novel Kruso; translations into 25 languages, adaptations for the theater, and a film followed.

READING, TALKS AND MUSIC – “Moosbrand” hails from a time when magazines still helped establish authors, books and debates. “Moosbrand“ was founded in 1993, a self-published bibliophile booklet with texts and illustrations from a group of artist friends who met for regular readings at Peter Huchel’s house in Wilhelmshorst.
