Halyna Kruk, born in 1974 in Lviv, Ukraine, is a poet, prose writer, translator from Polish, and literary scholar specializing in medieval Ukrainian literature. Even before her first two volumes of poetry were published in 1997, she was awarded two prestigious literary prizes: the Ptyvitannia Zhyttia Prize and the Granoslov Prize. In 2003, she won the international Step by Step competition and received the Gaude Polonia scholarship. Kruk also writes children’s books, which have been translated into 15 languages and with which she has enjoyed international success. She is a member of the Ukrainian Writers’ Union and holds a professorship in literary studies at the University of Lviv.
