Teschke, Holger

Holger Teschke, born in Bergen on Rügen in 1958 and raised in Sassnitz, learned the trade of a ship’s engine locksmith and went to sea until 1980. After studying acting direction in Berlin, he was employed as a dramaturg at the Berliner Ensemble from 1987 to 1999. From 1990 to 2010 he worked as a director and visiting professor of directing in the USA, Canada and Southeast Asia. For the Seebühne Hiddensee he has adapted and directed Shakespeare, Defoe, Goethe, Poe and Kafka. Since 2010 he has been teaching theater history and dramaturgy at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch in Berlin. Teschke writes plays, radio plays, travel books and essays and was awarded the Critics’ Prize of the Berliner Zeitung in 1989, the Culture Prize of the Rügen Cultural Foundation in 2005 and the Children’s Radio Play Prize of Karlsruhe in 2008. Since 2019, he has been an honorary member of the Seebühne Hiddensee.

The warm-up before the start of the 23rd poesiefestival berlin! Poets’ Corner takes over the city with poetry! Berlin-based poets and musicians will read and perform across the city’s districts in libraries, gardens, and cultural centers, thanks to support of Berlin’s city districts and cultural institutions. There’s room for poetry everywhere!
