Roshanak Rafani was born in Tehran in 1994 and began his musical education at the age of 8 on the Persian frame drum Daf. Later she added other Persian percussion instruments such as Dayere and Tombak. In addition to music theory lessons, she began learning classical percussion instruments in Tehran. Since 2018, she has been studying classical percussion with Dominic Oelze at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin. She has performed as a percussionist with various music groups and as a soloist in Iran, Armenia and Germany.

PERSIAN POETRY IN EUROPEAN EXILE: As much of the fatherland as I’ve got in my suitcase

READING, TALK AND MUSIC – Developments in Iran over the past few decades have forced countless writers into exile, often with little more than their own language in tow. “As much of the fatherland as I have in my suitcase” is a poem about exile by the poet Esmail Kho’i, who passed away in London in 2021.
